The Independent Living Skills Entry 3 course is designed for students who are working to develop the essential skills needed for independent living and a successful transition into adulthood. This course offers a variety of practical activities aimed at nurturing independence, such as basic cooking, travel training, and navigating the community safely. You will also engage in personal safety training, leisure activities, arts and crafts, digital skills development through ICT, and horticulture. By participating in these hands-on sessions, you will gain the confidence and practical experience needed to live more independently and make informed decisions in daily life.

Additionally, Functional Skills in English and Maths are integrated into the course, helping you build the essential literacy and numeracy skills needed for both employment and further education.

What will I do?

You may take part in a range of activities, including:

  • Basic Cooking
  • Accessing the Community
  • Personal Safety
  • Leisure Activities
  • Arts and Crafts
  • ICT
  • Horticulture
  • Travel Training with Lincolnshire County Council

You will also undertake 15 hours of work experience over three weeks alongside your studies at the College. During the course, you will also have the opportunity to complete the below qualifications:

  • Earth Week โ€“ Tackling the Climate Emergency Entry 3
  • Digital Skills Entry 3
  • Preparation for Work Entry 3
  • Entry Level English
  • Entry Level Maths

Trips may also be arranged to support your learning within the course.

There are no formal entry qualifications for the Independent Living Skills Entry 3 course. However, your English and Maths will be assessed via initial assessments and prior achievement.

The Independent Living Skills Entry 3 course will take you 1 year to complete. You will attend college for 3 days per week at our Rochford Campus in Boston.

Please note that the 15 hours of work experience will be completed on an extra day alongside the days attending college.

The Independent Living Skills Entry 3 course is free for those who are:

  • Under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course
  • Aged 19+ and on an EHCP

You will be assessed by practical and theoretical activities that are showcased via a portfolio of work.

Successful completion of this course can lead onto a Level 1 course at the College.

Additional costs for this course may include educational trips.
