The Supporting Teaching and Learning (STLIS) Certificate Level 3 is ideal for individuals with some prior experience in education or those who have already completed a Level 2 qualification in STLIS or childcare. This advanced course is designed to enhance your skills and knowledge, preparing you for a more responsible and impactful role in supporting children and young people in their learning journey.

Throughout the course, you will delve deeper into key aspects of educational support, including safeguarding, ensuring children's safety and wellbeing, and assessment for learning, helping teachers monitor student progress effectively. Additionally, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of schools as organisations, learning about their structure, policies, and professional roles.

By completing this qualification, you will be well-prepared for senior teaching assistant roles or similar positions, with the potential to progress further in the education sector, including pursuing higher level qualifications or specialist training.

Upon successful completion of this course, the qualification you will achieve is the NCFE CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning.

What will I do?

During the course, you will study a variety of mandatory topics, including:

  • Schools and Colleges as Organisations
  • Support Health and Safety in a Learning Environment
  • Understand How to Safeguard Children and Young People
  • Develop Professional Relationships with Children, Young People and Adults
  • Understand How Children and Young People Develop
  • Support Positive Behaviour in Children and Young People
  • Support Children and Young People During Learning Activities
  • Support English and Maths Skills
  • Support the Use of ICT in the Learning Environment
  • Support Assessment for Learning
  • Engage in Personal and Professional Development

You will also undertake volunteering or a work placement in a primary, secondary, special educational needs and disabilities, or independent school or college, working with children and young people aged 4+ alongside your studies at the College.

You will also have the opportunity to complete the below qualifications:
  • Earth Week โ€“ Tackling the Climate Emergency Level 2
  • Advanced Industry Skills and Communication Level 3

In addition to your course, you may also study either GCSE or Functional Skills English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.

To study the Supporting Teaching and Learning (Teaching Assistant) Certificate Level 3, you will need to have GCSEs at grade 3 or above (old GCSE grade D or above) or equivalent, including a grade 4 in English. You will also need to have completed the Supporting Teaching and Learning (Teaching Assistant) Certificate Level 2.

The Supporting Teaching and Learning (Teaching Assistant) Certificate Level 3 will take you 1 year to complete. You will attend college at our Rochford Campus in Boston. You will also attend your volunteering or work placement for at least 100 hours throughout the duration of the course.

The Supporting Teaching and Learning (STLIS) Certificate Level 3 is free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course.

If you are aged 19+, this course will cost ยฃ1417.

Please note that all fees are subject to change.

You will be assessed via practical assessments (50%) and theory assessments (50%), including placement observations of your placement and written assessments.

The observations and assessments will build up a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates your skills and knowledge within your role. You will collect other types of evidence to build up your portfolio including witness testimonies, professional discussions, product evidence and assessor questions.

Successful completion of the Supporting Teaching and Learning Certificate Level 3 opens up exciting opportunities for further study and employment. If you choose to continue your studies, Higher Education offers opportunities to pursue a relevant Degree, further expanding your knowledge and career prospects. Additionally, this qualification can lead to employment as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant, allowing you to work in schools or colleges, supporting children and young people in their learning and development. This is a valuable stepping stone for a rewarding career in education.
