The Supporting Teaching and Learning (STLIS) Certificate Level 2 is an ideal starting point for those new to working in educational settings, such as schools and colleges. This course equips learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to effectively support the learning and development of children and young people.
Throughout the course, you will explore key aspects of educational support, including safeguarding, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of students in a learning environment. You will also develop an understanding of assessment for learning, helping to track student progress and support their academic growth. Additionally, the course covers schools as organisations, providing insight into how educational institutions operate and the roles within them.
By completing this qualification, you will be prepared for a teaching assistant role or similar positions within the education sector, with the potential to progress to higher level qualifications and further career opportunities.
Upon successful completion of this course, the qualification you will achieve is the NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning.

You will also undertake volunteering or a work placement in a primary, secondary, special educational needs and disabilities, or independent school or college, working with children and young people aged 4+ alongside your studies at the College.
In addition to your course, you may also study either GCSE or Functional Skills English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.
There are no formal entry requirements to study the Supporting Teaching and Learning (Teaching Assistant) Certificate Level 2. However, you will need a placement within an education setting for the duration of the course.
If you do not have GCSEs in English and Maths, Functional Skills English and Maths Level 2, or equivalent qualifications You will be encouraged to undertake these qualifications.
The Supporting Teaching and Learning (Teaching Assistant) Certificate Level 2 will take you 1 year to complete. You will attend college for a course induction with your tutor from 4:30pm-8:00pm at our Rochford Campus in Boston. Following this, you will attend online workshops from 5:00pm-8:00pm once per month. You will also attend your volunteering or work placement.
The Supporting Teaching and Learning (STLIS) Certificate Level 2 is free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course.

You will be assessed via practical assessments (50%) and theory assessments (50%), including placement observations of your placement and written assessments.
The observations and assessments will build up a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates your skills and knowledge within your role. You will collect other types of evidence to build up your portfolio including witness testimonies, professional discussions, product evidence and assessor questions.
Successful completion of the Supporting Teaching and Learning Certificate Level 2 opens up exciting opportunities for further study and employment. You can progress to the Supporting Teaching and Learning Certificate Level 3, which builds on your skills and knowledge, preparing you for more advanced roles in education. Additionally, this qualification can lead to employment as a Level 2 Teaching Assistant, allowing you to work in schools or colleges, supporting children and young people in their learning and development. This is a valuable stepping stone for a rewarding career in education.
