The OCR Level 2 Cambridge Technical Diploma in Sport is designed to provide you with a comprehensive skill set required for a successful career in the sports industry. This qualification not only develops your knowledge but also enhances your practical coaching and instructing abilities, boosting your confidence and professionalism.

As part of this course, you will also complete the YMCA Level 1 Award in Fitness and Physical Activity, further expanding your expertise and employability within the fitness sector and qualifying you to work as a gym instructor under supervision.

The course includes a mix of practical and theoretical learning, covering key industry skills, academic foundations, and employer expectations. While you will engage in hands-on activities where possible, even practical subjects will involve elements of theory and portfolio work to strengthen your understanding.

This dynamic course prepares you for further education or entry-level roles in sports coaching, fitness instruction, and other related professions.

What will I do?

This course may cover topics, including:

  • Practical Sport
  • Anatomy and Physiology for Sport
  • Fitness Testing and Training
  • Nutrition for Sports Performance
  • Injury in Sport
  • Psychology for Sports Performance
  • Planning and Leading a Sports Activity

You will also undertake a work placement alongside your studies at the College. Staff will support with this as much as possible, it is hoped that students will find their own opportunity for a work placement.

During the course, you will also have the opportunity to complete the below qualifications:

  • Earth Week โ€“ Tackling the Climate Emergency Level 2
  • First Aid Awareness Level 2
  • Digital Skills Level 2
  • Fitness and Physical Activity Award Level 1
  • Industry Skills for Work Level 2

In addition to your course, you may also study either GCSE or Functional Skills English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.

To study the Sport Technical Diploma Level 2, you will need 4 GCSEs at grades 4 or above (old GCSE grade C or above) or equivalent including English or Maths.

The Sport Technical Diploma Level 2 will take you 1 year to complete. You will attend college for up to 5 days per week at our Peter Paine Performance Centre in Boston, plus approximately 24 hours of independent study per week. You will also be expected to complete a work placement of a minimum of 15 hours.

The Sport Technical Diploma Level 2 is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

If you are aged 19+, this course will cost ยฃ1500.

You will be assessed by a mix of practical assessments and theory assessments, including observations, presentations, reports, group work, and reports.
