The Level 1 Award in Art, Design and Media (Short Film and Video Content Creation) is an engaging course designed for aspiring Filmmakers, Content Creators, and anyone passionate about producing impactful video content. Over the span of this course, you will learn the fundamentals of film production, from conceptualising ideas to executing them with industry-standard software, equipment, and techniques. The course covers essential topics such as research, storyboarding, camera work, lighting, sound design, and post-production editing, ensuring you gain a holistic understanding of the entire filmmaking process.
This course stands out by offering hands-on experience and practical training with industry-standard equipment and software. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, you will work on real-world projects, allowing you to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios that are important to you.
At the end of the course, you will have produced a short film or video project that showcases your skills and creativity, ready to impress friends, family, potential employers, or customers. There is also a chance that your work could be showcased in the Boston College Film Festival.
During the course, you will study two units that form a coherent pattern of teaching and learning. These two units will provide you with an introduction to the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to explore, enhance and sustain your creative development in the field of video production. The course is delivered in a practical way, but there is a requirement for some written work and research in order to achieve the qualification.
To study the Short Film and Video Content Creation Award Level 1, you will need to have 2 GCSEs at grade 2 or above (old GCSE grade E or above) or equivalent, including English or Maths.
The Short Film and Video Content Creation Award Level 1 will take you 21 weeks to complete. You will attend college from 6:00pm-8:00pm for 1 day per week at our Rochford Campus in Boston. You will also be expected to undertake additional work at home in order to back up classroom activity.
The Short Film and Video Content Creation Award Level 1 may be fully funded by the Adult Education Budget should you be eligible under the following criteria:

You will be assessed via practical tasks, portfolio work, work-based evidence, and coursework.
Upon successful completion of this course, you may progress to our Level 2 evening course. Other potential progression routes include further study, employment (including entry-level roles in the creative industries), and Apprenticeships. Eligible candidates may also advance to our Higher Education courses.
