The VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Nail Technology has been specifically designed to develop practical skills in how to provide and maintain nail enhancements, manicure treatments and nail art. You will develop knowledge of health and safety practices in a salon environment and how to promote client care and communications in the beauty related sectors. You will also develop an underpinning knowledge and understanding of the practical skills learnt and develop your skills in nail technology to a high level of occupational ability, to enable you to perform your own salon services.

What will I do?

During the course, you will study a variety of topics, including:

  • Health and Safety
  • Client Care and Communications
  • Providing Manicure Treatments
  • Providing Nail Art
  • Providing and Maintaining Nail Enhancement

You will be required to gain practical experience by performing treatments on clients in the realistic working environment of the salon and complete practical assessments.

You will also have the opportunity to complete the below qualifications:

  • Preparing to Run a Hair and Beauty Business Award Level 2
  • Preventing Contact Dermatitis Award Level 2
  • Skin Cancer Awareness for Non-Healthcare Professionals Award Level 2

In addition to your course, you may also study either GCSE or Functional Skills English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.

To study the Nail Technology Certificate Level 2 you will need to have GCSEs at grade 4 or above (old GCSE grade C or above) or equivalent, including English or Maths. Please note that relevant work experience will also be considered.

The Nail Technology Certificate Level 2 will take you 1 year to complete. You will attend college for 1 evening per week at our Rochford Campus in Boston.

The Nail Technology Certificate Level 2 may be fully funded by the Adult Education Budget should you be eligible under the following criteria:

  • Be aged 19 or older on the 31st August at the start of the current academic year
  • Be either unemployed and receiving JSA, ESA or Universal Credit (subject to criteria) OR be earning less than ยฃ20,319 (annual gross salary) a year

If you do not qualify for funding under the AEB budget this course will cost ยฃ547.

You will be assessed via practical assessments, written assignments, online exams, oral questioning, and a portfolio of evidence.

Successful completion of this course will equip you with the skills needed to seek employment directly in the nail industry in a nail salon or work on a freelance/mobile basis. There are also opportunities to progress onto further study at the College.
