The BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Music Industry Skills is perfect for those who are passionate about music and thrive in a creative, dynamic environment. The course offers pathways in singing, band performance, music production, and music technology (including DJing), allowing you to tailor your studies to your interests. You will take part in a variety of live performances throughout the year and work on real-world projects, including opportunities to perform for public audiences and submit original tracks to the programme’s in-house record label.

You will develop skills in composition, music production, live performance, event management, artist development, and gain valuable insight into the business side of the music industry. The course provides a supportive and inspiring space for you to explore your artistic identity and achieve personal goals. Our experienced lecturers bring extensive industry knowledge to the classroom and remain active music professionals, ensuring your learning stays relevant and connected to the realities of today’s music world.

As a Music student, you will have access to all our fully equipped and dedicated Music and Performing Arts Campus, Sam Newsom Centre. The facilities include a music technology suite, recording studios that are equipped with the latest VST instruments and samplers, a large auditorium, six rehearsal rooms, and three DJ studios.

What will I do?

During the course, you will cover topics including:

  • Performance
  • Composition
  • Music Production
  • Event Management

You will also experience guest speakers working in the industry, including local artists, businesses, and creative practitioners. During the course, you will also have the opportunity to complete the qualification in Earth Week – Tackling the Climate Emergency Level 2.

In addition to your course, you may also study either Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.

To study the Music Diploma Level 2, you will need to have 4 GCSEs at grade 2 or above (old GCSE grade E or above) or equivalent, including English or Maths. You will also be required to attend an audition to demonstrate your musical or technical ability.

The Music Diploma Level 2 will take you 1 year to complete. You will attend college from 9:00am-4:30pm for 3 days per week at our Sam Newsom Centre in Boston, plus independent study.

The Music Diploma Level 2 is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

If you are aged 19+, this course will cost £1500.

Please note that all fees are subject to change.

You will be assessed through practical assessments and theory assessments. This includes projects, group work, and self-evaluation.

Successful completion of the Music Diploma Level 2 would enable you to progress to a Level 3 qualification in Music or Performing Arts.

Additional costs may include study materials and equipment (approximately £20) and educational visits (approximately £30).
