Add to ShortlistThe BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Creative Media Skills is the ideal course for anyone with a passion for television, film, and animation. This hands-on, industry-focused qualification prepares you for a wide range of creative careers, including Filmmaker, Animator, Games Designer, Social Media Content Creator, Podcaster, or Radio Producer. You will gain practical experience in our fully equipped Film and TV Studio and creative editing suites, developing skills in planning, production, and post-production across a variety of media formats.
As part of the course, you will work on live industry briefs in collaboration with local and national businesses, giving you valuable insight into real-world creative environments. You will learn to produce both fictional and factual content, animations, and engaging social media material such as YouTube videos and podcasts. Our lecturers are active professionals in the media industry, bringing current, real-world knowledge into the classroom to support your learning and career development.
As a Creative, Cultural and Business student, you will have access to all our Art, Design and Media facilities, which include two art studios, a photography studio, a darkroom, and a television studio. You will also be using industry standard software.
What will I do?
During the course, you will cover topics including:
- Creative Media Skills Development
- Creative Media Project
- Personal Progression
- Creative Industry Response
You will also undertake a work placement alongside your studies at the College. Staff will support with this as much as possible, it is hoped that students will find their own opportunity for a work placement. You will experience guest speakers working in the industry, including local artists, businesses, and creative practitioners.
During the course, you will also have the opportunity to complete the qualification in Earth Week โ Tackling the Climate Emergency Level 3.
Entry Qualifications
To study the Media Extended Diploma Level 3, you will need to have 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above (old GCSE grade C or above) or equivalent, including English and Maths. You will also need a portfolio of work for review if you are invited for an interview.
If you do not have a portfolio of work to bring to interview, you may be set a task to complete within 2 weeks as a condition to enrolment.
Attendance
The Media Extended Diploma Level 3 will take you 2 years to complete. You will attend college from 9:00am-4:30pm for 3-4 days per week at our Rochford Campus in Boston, plus independent study.
Fees
The Media Extended Diploma Level 3 is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.
If you are aged 19+, this course will cost ยฃ7395.

How Will I Be Assessed
You will be assessed through practical assessments (70%) and theory assessments (30%). This includes group work, work-based evidence, coursework, and presentations.
Where Could It Lead?
Successful completion of the Media Extended Diploma Level 3 opens the door to exciting opportunities in both Higher Education and employment. You can progress to university to study subjects such as Creative Media, Art and Design, Graphic Design, or Photography, further developing your creative and technical skills.
Alternatively, you may choose to enter the workforce in a variety of creative roles, including Producer, Director, Cinematographer, Camera Operator, Screenwriter, Games Designer, Animator, Motion Graphics and Visual Effects Designer, Radio Producer, Social Media Content Creator, and Freelance Videographer.
