The BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Creative Media Skills is designed for students who are passionate about film, animation, graphic design, or photography and thrive in a creative, hands-on environment. You will work in our industry-standard editing suites and studios, gaining practical experience across a range of media disciplines. The course covers Filmmaking, Graphic Design, Advertising, and Photography, while also helping you understand different media products and target audiences.
You will learn how to plan, produce, and present creative content, developing both technical skills and creative thinking. Whether you're creating a short film, designing a poster, or capturing compelling images, this course will give you the tools and confidence to express your ideas visually and effectively.
As a Creative, Cultural and Business student, you will have access to all our Art, Design and Media facilities, which include two art studios, a photography studio, a darkroom, and a television studio. You will also be using industry standard software.

You will also undertake a work placement alongside your studies at the College. Staff will support with this as much as possible, it is hoped that students will find their own opportunity for a work placement. You will experience guest speakers working in the industry, including local artists, businesses, and creative practitioners.

In addition to your course, you may also study either Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.
To study the Media Extended Certificate Level 2, you will need to have 5 GCSEs at grade 2 or above (old GCSE grade E or above) or equivalent, including English or Maths. You will also need a portfolio of work for review if you are invited for an interview.
If you do not have a portfolio of work to bring to interview, you may be set a task to complete within 2 weeks as a condition to enrolment.
The Media Extended Certificate Level 2 will take you 1 year to complete. You will attend college from 9:00am-4:30pm for 3-4 days per week at our Rochford Campus in Boston, plus independent study.
The Media Extended Certificate Level 2 is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.
If you are aged 19+, this course will cost ยฃ1500.

You will be assessed through practical assessments (70%) and theory assessments (30%). This includes group work, work-based evidence, coursework, and presentations.
Successful completion of the Media Extended Certificate Level 2 would enable you to progress to a Level 3 qualification in Creative Media Practice, Art and Design, Graphic Design, or Photography.
Additional costs may include study materials (approximately ยฃ80) and educational visits (approximately ยฃ30).
