The NCFE CACHE Introducing Caring for Children and Young People Diploma Level 2 provides a fundamental understanding of childcare and education, equipping you with both knowledge and practical skills essential for working with children and young people. This course is designed to give you a strong foundation in key areas such as child development, safeguarding, health and safety, and the importance of play in early learning.

As a knowledge and skills-based qualification, it helps you explore different aspects of childcare, enabling you to make informed decisions about pursuing a career in the sector. Whether you are considering becoming a nursery assistant, teaching assistant, or early years practitioner, this course will support your professional development.

Additionally, this diploma serves as a stepping stone for further study, such as a Level 3 childcare qualification, allowing you to progress in your education and gain more advanced expertise in early years education and care.

Please note that this qualification does not confer competence or license to practise.

What will I do?

During the course, you will cover topics including:

  • Child Development
  • Supporting Learning
  • Health and Safety
  • Supporting Routines

You will also undertake a work placement in an Early Years setting (working with children aged 0-8 years) alongside your studies at the College. You will also have the opportunity to complete the below qualifications:

  • Earth Week โ€“ Tackling the Climate Emergency Level 2
  • Intermediate Industry Skills and Communication Level 2
  • Non-regulated Emergency Paediatric First Aid Level 2
  • Non-Regulated Theatrical Reading
  • Non-Regulated Makaton

In addition to your course, you may also study either GCSE or Functional Skills English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.

To study the Introducing Caring for Children and Young People Diploma Level 2, you will need to have 5 GCSEs at grade 2 or above (old GCSE grade E or above) or equivalent, including English and Maths, or an Entry 3 qualification.

The Introducing Caring for Children and Young People Diploma Level 2 will take you 1 year to complete. You will attend college from 9:00am-4:30pm for 3 days per week at our Rochford Campus in Boston.

The Introducing Caring for Children and Young People Diploma Level 2 is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

If you are aged 19+, this course will cost ยฃ1500.

You will be assessed via practical assessments and course work, including placement observations and written assessments.

Upon completing your Introducing Caring for Children and Young People Diploma Level 2, you will have the essential knowledge and skills needed to take the next step in your education and career. You can progress onto a Level 3 childcare qualification which will further enhance your understanding of early years education.
