The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing Studies is designed for students who are developing the foundational skills needed to pursue a career as a professional hairdresser. This qualification provides hands-on training in essential hairdressing techniques, including shampooing, conditioning, cutting, colouring, and styling. Students will also gain knowledge of client consultation, health and safety practices, and salon etiquette, ensuring they are well-prepared for the demands of the industry.
The course combines practical experience with theoretical learning, allowing students to build confidence and competence in delivering high-quality hairdressing services. It also focuses on developing professional communication and customer service skills, which are vital for success in a salon environment.
Upon successful completion, students will have the opportunity to progress onto a Level 3 Hairdressing qualification for advanced training or enter the industry as a Junior Stylist in a salon, barbershop, or as a Freelance Hairdresser.

You will also undertake 15 hours of work experience alongside your studies at the College, and you will have the opportunity to complete the qualification in Earth Week โ Tackling the Climate Emergency Level 2.
In addition to your course, you may also study either GCSE or Functional Skills English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.
To study the Hairdressing Studies Diploma Level 2 you will need to have 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above (old GCSE grade D or above) or equivalent, including English and Maths.
The Hairdressing Studies Diploma Level 2 will take you 1 year to complete. You will attend college from 9:00am-4:30pm for 4 days per week at our Spalding Campus. You will also be expected to complete 15 hours of work experience, plus independent study.
The Hairdressing Studies Diploma Level 2 is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.
If you are aged 19+, this course will cost ยฃ1500.

You will be assessed via practical assessments on clients, a portfolio, workbooks, case studies, and online exams.
Successful completion of the Hairdressing Studies Diploma Level 2 will provide you with the essential skills and knowledge needed to pursue a career in the hairdressing industry. After completing this qualification, you may choose to further develop your expertise by progressing onto a Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing, which will enhance your technical abilities and career prospects. Alternatively, you can seek employment as a Junior Stylist in a salon or opt for self-employment, building your own client base as a Freelance Stylist.
