Recognised by the Department for Education (DfE), this diploma meets the Level 2 full and relevant criteria for an Early Years Practitioner, making it a valuable credential for those wishing to enter the workforce in a childcare setting.
In addition to practical childcare knowledge, the course focuses on enhancing your academic writing skills, preparing you for further studies and higher level qualifications. Whether you plan to progress onto a Level 3 Early Years course or other advanced studies, this diploma serves as an excellent stepping stone for your career.
What will I do?
During the course, you will cover topics including:
- Learning and Development
- Safeguarding and Wellbeing
- Roles and Responsibilities
- Physical Development
- Healthy Lifestyles
You will also undertake volunteering in an Early Years setting (working with children aged 0-8 years) alongside your studies at the College.
In addition to your course, you may also study either GCSE or Functional Skills English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.
Entry Qualifications
To study the Early Years Practitioner Diploma Level 2, you will need to have GCSEs at grades 3 and 4 or above (old GCSE grade D and C or above) or equivalent, including a grade 4 in English.
Attendance
The Early Years Practitioner Diploma Level 2 will take you 1 year to complete. You will attend college from 9:00am-4:30pm for 3 days per week at our Rochford Campus in Boston. You will also attend your volunteering placement for 2 days per week.
Fees
The Early Years Practitioner Diploma Level 2 is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.
If you are aged 19+, this course will cost ยฃ1500.

How Will I Be Assessed
You will be assessed via practical assessments and course work, including placement observations and written assessments.
Where Could It Lead?
Upon completing your Early Years Practitioner Diploma Level 2, you will have the essential knowledge and skills needed to take the next step in your education and career. You can progress onto a Level 3 childcare qualification which will further enhance your understanding of early years education.
Additionally, this qualification allows you to work under supervision in various early years roles, such as:
- Nursery Practitioner
- Classroom Assistant
- Pre-school Practitioner
