The Cyber Security Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 is ideal for individuals looking to begin a career in one of today’s most in-demand and rapidly growing sectors. This programme equips you with the essential knowledge and hands-on skills needed to help organisations defend against cyber threats and ensure the integrity of their digital systems.

As a Cyber Security Technician, you’ll play a vital role in identifying vulnerabilities, monitoring networks, responding to incidents, and supporting the digital resilience of businesses. Your expertise will be valued across a wide range of industries, including finance, healthcare, retail, manufacturing, and government services. With cyber threats evolving daily, this apprenticeship offers a strong foundation for those eager to make an impact in the digital world while opening pathways to further qualifications and career progression within the cyber security field.

What will I do?

During the course, you will work on real-world projects and carry out on-the-job training, guided by experienced tutors and workplace mentors. You will be supported to reach the gateway to end point assessment to achieve the Apprenticeship Standard.

Throughout the Apprenticeship, you will:

  • Support the Implementation and Maintenance of Secure Systems and Networks
  • Monitor and Respond to Cyber Security Threats and Incidents
  • Maintain Technical Controls and Contribute to Risk Management Procedures
  • Manage Access Controls, Certificates, and Cryptographic Processes
  • Assist in Promoting a Culture of Cyber Security Awareness across Organisations

To study the Cyber Security Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3, you will need to have 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above (old GCSE grade C or above) or equivalent, including English and Maths.

The Cyber Security Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 will take you 2 years to complete. You will attend college for 1 day per week at our Rochford Campus in Boston. You will also attend your Apprenticeship with your Employer for 4 days per week.

As an Apprentice, you will pay no course fees. However, your employer may have to pay towards your training as well as providing you with a wage (please see below).

There are different rates of pay for apprentices depending on your age and what year of your apprenticeship you’re in.

Aged 16 to 18.

The current National Minimum Wage rate for an apprentice is £6.40 per hour.

Aged 19 or over and in your first year.

The current National Minimum Wage rate for an apprentice is £6.40 per hour.

Aged 19 or over and have completed your first year.

You’re entitled to the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage rate for your age.

You will be assigned an Assessor who will observe your practice throughout the duration of your course. Your Assessor will offer support and guidance while using a variety of assessment methods to help you achieve the requirements of the qualification.

When you, your Employer and your Assessor feel you are ready, you will be put forward for the End Point Assessment which will be carried out independently. This includes:

  • A project presentation
  • A professional discussion
  • A portfolio of evidence

Successfully completing the Cyber Security Apprenticeship Level 3 can lead to roles such as Cyber Security Analyst, SOC Analyst, Junior Penetration Tester, Threat and Risk Analyst, or Network Security Officer. It also opens the opportunity to advance onto a Higher Apprenticeship or pursue a University Level qualification in Cyber Security or IT, further developing your skills and career prospects in the field.
