The VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Barbering will develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to advise and consult, and provide a range of cutting and barbering services specifically for men's hair, which includes shaving and creating facial hair shapes. You will also enhance your communication and customer service skills, awareness of environmental sustainability, commercial skills, and problem solving and research skills, all of which are valued highly by employers.

Achieving this qualification enables you to be eligible to become a State Registered Graduate Barber (SRGB) with The Hair Council and join the British Barbers' Association.

What will I do?

During the course, you will study a variety of topics, including:

  • Client Consultation for Hair Services
  • Follow Health and Safety Practice in the Salon
  • Cutting Men’s Hair
  • Cutting Facial Hair

You will be required to gain practical experience by performing treatments on clients in the realistic working environment of the salon and complete practical assessments.

You will also have the opportunity to complete the below qualifications:

  • Preparing to Run a Hair and Beauty Business Award Level 2
  • Preventing Contact Dermatitis Award Level 2
  • Skin Cancer Awareness for Non-Healthcare Professionals Award Level 2

There are no formal entry qualifications to study this course.

The Barbering Certificate Level 2 will take you 19 weeks to complete. You will attend college from 6:00pm-9:00pm for 1 day per week (Wednesdays) at our Rochford Campus in Boston.

The Barbering Certificate Level 2 may be fully funded by the Adult Education Budget should you be eligible under the following criteria:

  • Be aged 19 or older on the 31st August at the start of the current academic year
  • Be either unemployed and receiving JSA, ESA or Universal Credit (subject to criteria) OR be earning less than £20,319 (annual gross salary) a year

If you do not qualify for funding under the AEB budget this course will cost £541.

Please note that all fees are subject to change.

You will be assessed via practical assessments, written assignments, and exams.

Successful completion of this course can lead onto a Level 3 qualification in Barbering or a Level 2 qualification in Hairdressing. You could progress into employment in a variety of settings, including barber shops and salons, self-employment, media, the Armed Forces, HM Prison Service, Cruise Liners, hospitals, and care homes.
