 Ros Blowers

What is one of your favourite quotes?

What goes around comes around.

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time I am involved with amateur dramatics and have taken part in many musicals and plays. I produced Scrooge for Boston Operatic Society, and at present a friend and I have formed our own company and are writing a selection of sketches to perform locally.

What part of your job do you enjoy the most?

Seeing the learners face when they have completed their last assessment and I sign off their portfolio.

One Thing Students Won't Know About Me...

 My bra size.

I often ask myself what led me to teaching. (Fate).

After having my daughter I decided to return to College to do my Advanced Training in Hairdressing. The course led me to an interest in Teaching so as my course drew to an end I undertook developing modules for a Certificate in Pre-Vocational Education, teaching hair practical sessions, moving on to teaching all aspects of hairdressing.

I later took the roles of Course Tutor and Course Co-ordinator and was involved with the introduction of teaching hairdressing to Adult returners. I found this very rewarding as the learners were getting a second chance at education and the effect it has on their lives is very satisfying.

More recently, I have become involved in salon based assessments, which has helped to build relationships and encourage communication between salons and the work we do at College to ensure our students are developing the right skills for working in the industry when they leave.

For the last two years I have worked two to three days a week at our Spalding Centre where we now have our own Hairdressing and Beauty Training Salon thats open to the public.

A final spooky twist to my story is, that as a 13 year old I worked as a Saturday girl at Hazel Pennington’s Hairdressing which is situated opposite our Style Academy Salon, and here I am many many years later returning to work where I started, which brings me back to my favourite quote!
