 Lesley Wakerley

If you won the lottery what would be the first thing you would do?

I would go on holiday to decide how I was going to spend the money.

What super-power would you most like to have, and why?

The super power I would like is to be able to fly.

What has been the highlight of your career?

The highlight of my career has been working with Lee Brammer (Boston College's Media and Photography Technician).

One Thing Students Won't Know About Me...

I have been a singer in a punk band.

I started training as a fine artist, which lead to selling my work and participating in exhibitions throughout the country and in London.

Next stop was a job in a London Graphic Design studio in Docklands, I got this job on the strength of my drawing skills. I did further training in Typography at the London College of Printing and Graphic Design, training on the job.

Eventually I started my own company, specialising in illustration, graphic design, photography, packaging and advertising. This is still trading successfully today.

When I got to a significant birthday I decided that I wanted to give something back and help young people with the benefit of my experience, I volunteered to teach at my old college and was offered a job within three weeks. I enjoy working with young people I find it rewarding and inspiring, that is why I continue to teach.
