Boston College Student Wins SEBTA 2016 Title

The annual Student Electrotherapy Beauty Therapist Award recognises the best student electrotherapists in the whole of the UK. This year marked the 10th year of SEBTA, sponsored by Carlton Professional.

Boston College is extremely proud to be home to the winner of this year’s title, Theresa Nelson.

The competition is open to all Beauty Therapist students of all ages, from Level 3 and above. The award focuses on excellence in facial electrotherapy, celebrating the very best of talent across the country. For students, SEBTA offers a once in a lifetime opportunity to take part in a nationally renowned competition.

Six student finalists and their lecturers were invited to stay overnight in Brighton, where the awards were hosted, and enjoyed an evening being wined and dined by The Carlton Group before attending the grand final on Thursday 16th June. On the day of the final, each of the students had to perform a treatment in front of a panel of renowned judges, giving them the perfect opportunity to make their decision on the winner before the awards’ ceremony.

Theresa Nelson, from Boston College, impressed the panel of renowned judges so much so that it gained her the title of SEBTA 2016 winner. On this achievement, she said, “SEBTA 2016 has been an amazing experience. Winning is just a bonus! I have met so many lovely people and the atmosphere has been so friendly. I have just finished college but my plan is to set up my own mobile business and I am keen to specialise in facials and massage. I know that this award is going to help me do that. Ultimately, I would like to teach. SEBTA has been an experience I will never forget. I have learned so much from it.”

By winning this title, Theresa took home an abundance of prizes, for herself, her lecturer, and Boston College. Along with the title she gained, she also took £500 and a Carlton Professional Ultraderm machine home. As a direct result of Theresa’s success, Boston College now have recognition via the SEBTA College Winner Logo and SEBTA College Trophy. Sam Cropley, Theresa’s supporting lecturer also left with a prize for her dedication and training of £250.
