EngineerMotor Vehicle

If you are a hands on person and have got the drive to succeed in the Electrical, Engineering or Motor industries then one of our courses may help you achieve your ambitions. There is always be a need for suitably qualified electricians and engineers at all levels and there are excellent opportunities for progression to a range of professional careers.

Technical subjects might include electronics, computer aided design and draughting, robotics, pneumatics and manufacturing technology. Alternatively you can choose craft training which instills practical hands-on engineering skills along with the essential underpinning knowledge required to work in a particular industry, e.g. motor vehicle engineering, welding and fabrication, mechanical engineering or maintenance engineering.

From Strength to Strength

As the motor vehicle and engineering industries are becoming increasingly advanced, Boston College is pleased to have recruited tutors with recent experience in cutting edge technologies. The skills and knowledge they have gained with leading automotive franchises and manufacturers are shared with the students in the College’s workshops and classrooms.

Success

The Engineering team is particularly proud of its achievement rates. Students have been involved in a number of activities including Engineering field trips. Employability and job search skills are now part of the curriculum for all students. Students also have the opportunity to take part in the national ‘Robot Games’ competition. Some students go on to self-employment, employment in a related industry or other vocational fields. Having gained in-depth knowledge and skills in their chosen trade at Level 2 or 3, many of our students benefit from entering work-based learning. This gives them the opportunity to gain more work experience and a possible fast-track route through an Apprenticeship, or access to Higher Education.

Joe moved to Boston with his family for the ‘peaceful life’ and with this enrolled on a course at Boston College. “Engineering is something I have always been keen on and there are loads of practical elements to the course which I really enjoy. At the moment we are building a gravity racer which is a great team project”.

Not only being new to Boston but new to the College is a scary aspect for anyone “I found it really easy to fit in, everyone was friendly and it seemed quite easy”.

“I am looking forward to the 2nd year of the course as we will be able to create our own projects, and I know I will be able to gain the support of the tutors as they have been really helpful in the 1st year”.

“My overall dream is to run my own business within the Engineering industry”.
