Care

Would you find a career helping others rewarding? Care Studies courses prepare you for work or further training in occupations where other people are the focus and priority.

There are many career opportunities for both men and women in the wide range of Care and Early Years settings. Care Studies learners at Boston College are also very active in fundraising for charities.

You will be continually assessed through projects, assignments, professional practice and external exams. All potential students will be subject to Criminal Records Bureau checks. Successful completion at advanced level can provide progression to Higher Education or further professional training, such as nursing, midwifery and teaching.

Staff in the Care Studies department have a wealth of knowledge to share with students, drawn from their experiences in the field. Tutors have run their own nurseries and practised as nurses, midwives and health workers. They share years of valuable experience, and are committed to Continuing Professional Development, spending 4 days a year with relevant organisations to update and develop their own skills. The Care Studies team was highly praised in the College’s latest Ofsted report: “Students benefit from good resources and well qualified members of staff”.

Carla FletcherCase Study : Carla Fletcher

Carla went to school at Kirton Middlecott; during her time there she attended the College one day a week where she studied Hairdressing.

This experience opened Carla’s eyes as to what she really wanted to do as a career, she now understood that it was actually Childcare that she had a passion for. “A lot of my family work in Childcare, and I have always enjoyed being around children”.

Carla can clearly see the hard work that she has had to put into her College work through placements she has attended. “It’s helped me to understand children more. I never realised how much there is in looking after children, you think it’s easy but it's not! A lot of hard work needs to be put into it so it has definitely got to be an area you want to get into. It has really helped me build my confidence and get ready for the industry”.

We've won national awards for all sorts of things, which its very tempting to brag about, and by all objective measures we have a very good college here, but what you will want to know is whats in it for you? Will we help you move forward in life and work in the way you need it to?
