The VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Nail Technology is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop practical skills in how to provide and maintain nail enhancements and manicure treatments and nail art.
During this course you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety practices in a salon environment and how to promote client care and communications in the beauty related sectors. You will also develop an underpinning knowledge and understanding of the practical skills learnt throughout this qualification.
The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills in nail technology to a high level of occupational ability, to enable you to perform your own salon services.
The Beauty department has three fully equipped salons together with a reception area for all practical skills. Theory sessions will be taught either in the resource area or various classrooms.
What will I do?
The course consists of units covering:
- Health and safety
- Client care and communication
- Provide manicure treatments
- Provide nail art
- Provide and maintain nail enhancement
During practice sessions you will be required to work on each other before progressing to work on clients.
The course of study will include theoretical and practical sessions through individual and group work.
You will be required to gain practical experience by performing treatments on clients in the realistic working environment of the salon and complete practical assessments. The average group size is 16 students.
You must have achieved a Level 2 standard of education and/or have appropriate and relevant work experience.
You will be required to sit a basic skills test to assess your suitability for the course.
This course is free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course.
For those aged 19+, this course will cost £547.

This course will take you 1 year, September to June, to complete. You can study at either Boston College or Boston College Spalding for 1 evening a week, 6.00pm - 9.00pm
A minimum of 90% attendance is required in order to achieve this qualification.
