If you are passionate about film, television and graphic design, and enjoy working in a creative, exciting environment, then studying Creative Media Production is the course for you. 

You will work within our fully functional TV and photography studio, and creative editing suites, to generate personalised projects relating to topics that interest you. You will also engage with local businesses to work on 'real world' projects.  You will learn how to construct films, documentaries, music videos, live broadcasts, advertising, photography, product packaging and much more.

This qualification will allow you to progress to a Level 3 course upon completion, as long as entry requirements have been met.
You will study a total of 8 different units covering video production, graphic and product design, photography, and television studio.

They will also look at core Media issues relating to communication, research, planning and audiences.

As a Media student you will have access to all of our art, design and media facilities, which include dedicated television studio, 2 iMac editing suites, photography studio and darkroom, and a creative art suite. You will also be using industry standard software.

Work experience will be sourced with local employers to give you real world experiences that relate to the creative sector. You are supported in identifying organisations for your placements, or can generate these from your own contacts.

You will go on trips regularly to visit places such as the Harry Potter studios, live television production, course related museum visits, and a numerous 'team building' excursions.

You will also be able to meet a numerous of guest speakers including the BBFC, BBC and local Business leaders.
5 GCSEs at grades G or above (New GCSE grade - 1 or above) or equivalent, and a portfolio of work or a Level 1 qualification.
This course is free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course.

For those aged 19+, this course will cost £1200.

This course will take you 1 year, September to June, to complete. You will study at College for 3-4 days a week, 9.00am-4.30pm, plus 6-8 hours of independent study.

The course is also designed to allow free days to seek employment.

You will be assessed through Practical tasks (70%) such as group work, work based evidence, coursework and presentations, which will be underpinned with Theory (30%) to give you a solid grounding in Media.
Successful completion of the course to a Merit or Distinction level would allow you to progress to the BTEC Level 3 Qualifications in Media (Film), Art and Design, Graphic Design or Photography. You could also progress to other Level 3 courses delivered at Boston College.

These qualifications broaden your understanding of each industry and create a perfect ‘stepping stone’ to university. Successful completion of a Level 3 course allows progression to a first choice university.

Should you decide to enter the world of employment this course is the equivalent of 4 GCSE’s at grade A*-C.
You may be asked to pay some contribution towards educational visits and/or workshops approx £30 per year. You will also be expected to provide your own personal media materials e.g. SD cards, external hard drives, camera film, printing costs, etc approx £80 per year.

Financial assistance can be gained from a means tested Bursary and Be Brilliant Foundation, this can be used against any of the additional costs.
