CAREERS EDUCATION & GUIDANCE
Boston College offers a FREE Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) service to prospective and current students as well as members of the public to help with a range of careers related issues.
All of the services we provide are approved by the Matrix Accreditation Body with the College gaining Matrix Excellence Awrad 2008.
In 2009 the College achieved teh East Midlands Quality Career Mark Award for its careers provision with 16-19 year olds. In October 2009 the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) published 'Statutory Guidance: Impartial Careers Education' and the College is implementing the new framework.
All of the careers advisers are qualified practitioners and the College is a Nextstep provider offering a free careers service for adults. For more information on the Nextstep organisation plese go to www.nextstepeastmidlands.org.uk
What is available?

- Signposting – we can point you towards information, advice and guidance available inside and outside of Boston College.
- Information – you can access specific information such as details of learning opportunities, re-training, employment and sources of funding for learning.
- Advice – you can discuss your training or learning needs with a qualified practitioner. Advice is available on career progression, job search and preparation for interviews.
- Guidance – this is an opportunity for you to have an interview with a qualified practitioner. It is an in-depth process which helps you to explore a range of options, relate information to your own needs and circumstances and make decisions about your learning, work and career.

Resources Available:
- Computerised career databases - Kudos, Careerscape, Pathfinder to help with matching your skills to careers/jobs, providing job profiles, personal action plan and general supporting information.
- Access to useful Careers websites
- Careers Library with both occupational and lifestyle information on such topics as Education, Work and Training, Money, Health, Travel and Transport.
- Books on Higher Education, Jobsearch, CVs, Interview Skills, Personal Statements
- DVDs, films on a range of topics and careers.
